Three weeks of overnight work on Burns Road

Crews started milling and repaving Burns Road on July 27. The work runs from Military Trail east to Ironwood Road, just shy of Alternate A1A. It is scheduled as a three-week job, weather permitting. Crews work Monday through Thursday nights, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., so the noise lands well after dinner. The road stays open to traffic the whole time. If your bedroom window faces Burns, you already know what fresh asphalt smells like at midnight. The city ties the project to ongoing safety improvements for drivers, bicyclists and people on foot.
Florida will refund sales tax on impact windows and doors
If you are hardening the house before the next storm, keep the receipts. Florida is refunding sales tax paid on impact-resistant windows, doors and garage doors installed on eligible homes. The purchase has to fall between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2029. This is not a discount at the register. You pay the tax, then file for it back. The home must be a site-built dwelling with a homestead exemption and a just value of $700,000 or less. One property per owner, and the refund caps at $500. Claims open now and run through September 30, 2029.
Eos Fitness is eyeing the old LA Fitness space
That big dark box at PGA National Shops may not stay empty much longer. Eos Fitness is planning a Palm Beach Gardens location in the former LA Fitness space, according to What Now. The chain has been filling in across South Florida, and this would put a gym back in a spot the neighborhood was used to driving to. The company plans to open the club in 2027 near PGA Boulevard and Fairway Drive. Still, anyone who has been paying for a membership somewhere farther down PGA Boulevard will want to keep an eye on the storefront.
The Sandhill Crane detour is still on, and two more closures are coming
The main Northlake Boulevard entrance to Sandhill Crane Golf Club and The Nest Par 3 has been closed since June 27. It is staying shut into August while the city finishes renovations and upgrades. Use the Avenir entrance instead, and check the city's detour map before you cut across. Both courses are also closed Mondays through October 5 for summer projects, though the Dancing Crane opens 3 to 8 p.m. Then on August 11 and 12, the Sandhill Crane course and driving range close entirely. The Nest Par 3 stays open both days.
The mall books its fall Kids Club calendar
The Gardens Mall's fall Kids Club schedule is posted. A Back to School Dance Party with Just Dance Inc. comes to Nordstrom Court on August 15 from 10 a.m. to noon, with dance sessions, arts and crafts, and store promotions. Manatee Lagoon staff bring a Manatee Zone Party to Nordstrom Court on September 19 from 10 a.m. to noon, with presentations and crafts. The Spooky Soiree follows October 24 from noon to 2 p.m. in Grand Court, with costumes, treats, store offers and a sing-along performance.
Teachers get an evening at The Nest before the bell rings
School is about to start, so the city is handing teachers a night off first. Thursday, August 6, from 4 to 7:30 p.m., The Nest at 9900 Sandhill Crane Drive hosts its second Teachers Bay Play Appreciation Night. Trackman bay play is complimentary, with discounts on top. No swing experience required, which is the point. The same address is busy earlier that day and the day before. Summer Camp 8 runs Wednesday and Thursday mornings, August 5 and 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, with games and instruction.
The city wants your photos of this place, through September 18
The 2026 Resident Photography Contest is open, and entries close September 18. There are five categories: iGardens cellphone photography, Beauty Abounds, Digital Manipulation, People & PBG, and a new America 250 category. You must be a city resident or a student attending school here. The shot has to be taken inside city limits, sometime between September 2025 and September 2026. That means the sunset over the golf course from last winter still counts. Finalists get unveiled at a City Hall reception on October 19 at 6 p.m.
