The Marlins are throwing Tommy Hutton a day of his own

Tommy Hutton's send-off, teacher nights at The Nest, and pediatric rehab ending in Boynton Beach and Wellington.

Lead story

If you have watched Marlins baseball in this county, you have heard a Palm Beach Gardens neighbor call it. Tommy Hutton gets Thank You Tommy Day on Sunday, August 23, when Miami hosts Washington at 1:40 p.m. at loanDepot park. A pregame ceremony includes a career video, and his three granddaughters will throw the first pitch to him. Hutton is 80, and he plans to retire after the 2026 season. This is his 28th season on Marlins broadcasts, 23 of them in the TV booth. His professional baseball career, player and broadcaster combined, runs 61 years. He is already in the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame.

Bethesda is ending pediatric rehab services this month

CBS12 reported July 28 that Bethesda Hospital will stop pediatric rehabilitation services on August 21. The change hits three locations: Bethesda Hospital East, Baptist Health City in Boynton Beach, and the Wellington office. The services ending are occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology. Appointments already booked through August 21 are expected to stay as scheduled. The hospital says staff will help families find continued care, get referrals and move medical records. Its provider list includes offices in Palm Beach Gardens and other county cities. Families can call 561-737-7733, extension 84402, for help with the transition. The hospital did not say why the services are ending.

Sandhill Crane closes August 10–12

Mark the calendar if your standing tee time lives at Sandhill Crane Golf Course. The course and the driving range close for scheduled maintenance Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 12. The closure runs 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. each of those days. The Nest Par 3 stays open for play and practice, which is the whole workaround. Plan on the short course, or plan on three days off. And remember the entrance situation before you drive over, because the way in has changed.

Things to do

Teachers get an hour in the bays next week

School is close enough to feel, so The Nest Par 3 is giving teachers an hour in a Trackman bay. Bay Play Appreciation Nights run Wednesday, August 5, and Thursday, August 6, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at 9900 Sandhill Crane Drive. Show a valid work ID and you get one complimentary hour of bay play. Also on the table: 50 percent off golf balls, $5 club rentals if you need sticks, and discounted food and drink. The fine print matters here. No advance reservations are allowed, bays are first come first served, and play must start after 4 p.m. Use the Avenir entrance.

Three mornings of junior golf, starting Tuesday

Summer Camp 8 runs Tuesday, August 4, through Thursday, August 6, from 8 a.m. to noon at 9900 Sandhill Crane Drive. Junior golfers get instruction, games and golf activities across the three mornings. Cost is $100 per day, or $240 if you sign up for the full run, which is the better math by a good margin. Registration availability can change, so check the city listing before you make plans. And note the arrival timing: mornings here start early, and the entrance is not where it used to be.

A storybook breakfast lands at Honeybelle next Saturday

The Bookworm Princess & Her Prince breakfast is Saturday, August 8, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Honeybelle at PGA National Resort. Expect live character appearances, interactive entertainment and storybook-inspired performances over a full breakfast buffet. Photo opportunities are part of the morning. The resort says space is limited and asks guests to reserve ahead. That is the sort of detail people ignore until the Friday before, so consider yourself told. It is a two-hour window on a Saturday morning, which is about the right length for this kind of thing.
